I think it’s been a long time since veterans have gotten the cost-of-living allowance raised. I think that our Congress and our people who get to choose all that, they give themselves raises but they’re not giving us any raise to keep up with the cost of living. I’m a veteran and I live on next to nothing, and a little increase would be appreciated.
You get solicitations every week of the year from veterans organizations begging the public for money for money because the U.S. government kicks veterans in the teeth when they get back after they do their service. They don’t take care of them, they ignore them for months, it’s a big scandal. They don’t give them the right treatment they’re not assessing their needs. They don’t get housing, they don’t get clothing, they don’t get the proper medical care for PTSD. I think it is disgraceful. I am the daughter of a World War II veteran. I’ve listened to numerous shows where veterans are calling up in tears. You know how many veterans are committing suicide every day of the year? Hundreds across the country because they’re so degraded and frustrated and they’re not getting their needs met — which is a shame on the U.S. government.
